Inter Miami has defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3–1 to win the 2025 MLS Cup. Miami becomes the 16th side to win an MLS championship in just its sixth season. Lionel Messi had a hand in all three goals. Miami took the lead when Edier Ocampo turned Tadeo Allende ’s pass into his own net.

Lionel Messi had a goal and three assists and Tadeo Allende scored twice as Inter Miami beat FC Cincinnati 4-0 Sunday to advance to the Eastern Conference finals.

Messi has scored 13 goals in 26 World Cup appearances. He has the most goal contributions and most minutes played in World Cup history. During the 2022 World Cup, he scored seven goals and provided three assists en route to lifting the crown for the third time in Argentina’s history.

"I'm very happy for him," first-year Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano said. "I'm very happy because of the season that he played. ... For him it was very, very special and very important to win this trophy. He came here to win this trophy."

Kylian Mbappé is the latest player to score four goals in a Champions League match, joining the likes of Messi, Real Madrid predecessor Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski.
